Illin'
10 Good things about colds
1. Guilt free laziness.
2. Cheap brandy (for medicinal purposes)
3. Gremlins 1&2 back to back.
4. Home made parsnip and butternut-squash soup.
5. Nic Cage marathons (Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart, Face/Off)
6. Hot chocolate.
7. Hot chocolate with cheap brandy.
8. Neal Asher books.
9. Rice pudding.
10. Breaking Bad season 2.
Everything else is pretty rubbish though.

The One and Only
Funny things can happen to a bored mind.
Well, to my bored mind anyway.
With a lull in projects at the moment I looked forward to doing some stuff for myself, but mainly to get back into doing some drawing. I used to draw almost exclusively but lately I seem to have spent more time lurking about in the world of graphic design. I'm not really saying its a bad thing and I've enjoyed it but also a part of me misses just...drawing. I've always tried to included an illustrative element into anything I design as I think that's a big part of my identity as an 'artist' (i don't think I'll ever be able to say that without the quotation marks), but its still different to the work I was doing only a year or so ago. I appreciate though that my style of drawing doesn't always fit the right feel to some projects and my main satisfaction from any jobs I do for other people is that they feel 'right'. That they fit the sound of a band or the right look for a club night or whatever. That's the main reason I branched slightly away from doing straight up drawing in some cases. And probably something I'll continue to do when I feel its the right move stylistically. So the last six months or so's work has been for the better mainly I think (hope) but I still miss just doing a big drawing for no other reason other then wanting to do a big drawing.
So anyway, faced with some free time and this want to do a big drawing obviously I spent last night designing an unofficial poster that has absolutely no drawing in it at all for a Chesney Hawkes gig (06/02/10 @ The Freebutt. Its diary time people!)
Because that makes sense.
To my bored mind.

Wednesday Adams
It occurred to me the other day that its been ages since i did any non-project based drawing. So equipped with a cup of tea, a mixtape and with a storm raging outside my window I did some sketching. I forgot how nice it is to draw without any aim or deadline. Its been too long.
I also dug out an old A2 canvas that I never achieved anything with. I've wanted to start working on a slightly larger scale recently so that is a good excuse to get started. I might even give painting a go. You know, like a real artist.

Sunshine on a Rainy Day
Even though it seems that the winds and rains of hell have be sent to destroy us all I'm quite chipper today. The marathon christmas ep project is almost done and all looking very festive and the release party has been set for the 23rd December at The Freebutt. Deets for that found here. Come along, should be fun and you can see the all the cd's that I've put blood, sweat and tears into (although if you're nice I'll give you clean one thats isn't covered in any bodily fluids)
The other little ray of sunshine to cut through the clouds is a recently booked ticket to go and see Grizzly Bear when they play here early next year.
Can. Not. Wait.

Most Evil!
This is one of the projects I'm totally psyched about!
Nullifier are two boys (magically transforming into eight when they play live) who have some killer songs about space, surfing and girls. Above is some of the artwork for their new album 'Most Evil' which should be hitting stores very soon. I'll post up more of it as its completed.
Their track 'This Animal Kingdom' has been getting heavy rotation since I first heard it a few months back.
Check it out here

Drawing On Pub Walls
One of the oldest and most respected venues in Brighton, The Freebutt is now under the control of four total dudes who are making it better and better. Its undergone a bit of a relaunch and the place is now a whole heap nicer to hang in without having lost its slightly chaotic charm. I was kindly asked to do a mural across the bar (which is the best place ever to do a mural) upstairs in the Penthouse. Eleven hours in a pub was the longest time I've spent in one without having to be carried out but it was fun none the less and everyone (including myself) was pretty stoked with it.
I'll try and grab some more snaps of it at a later date and if you're ever in the area pop in and have a pint and a look around. Chances are I'll be there...
Jingle All The Way
Christmas has come early in my studio (read bedroom) as I'm currently hand-making a set of limited edition christmas ep sleeves for OIB Records. There's going to be 50 of them filling up stockings across the land featuring original christmas songs from The Hornblower Brothers, Curly Hair, My Device, Lonely Ghosts, Pseudo Nippon and Foxes!. Each one will come with handmade wrapping paper, a handwritten tracklisting and fancy pull out with wintery tales from all the bands featured.
It should all be coming together in the next few weeks.
Updates to come!
Go! Go! Go!
Hello.
I know what you've been thinking, the world really needs another blog about a little known creative type.
Well here it is! Rejoice!
I had another blog once which is now way out of date (attached to a way out of date website) and my works moved on a bit from then so thought I'd start fresh. I'm going to really try and sort out my lame blogging game as I've got some pretty exciting projects on at the moment and planned for the near future. Theres also a bit of a backlog of stuff I've done recently to catch up on and post up.
It should be fun, stick around!
